“1000 Load Fuck” the most valuable porn scene in history

1000loads_2

To be honest, I’m sorry to have to write this press release.  Yes, TIM successfully defended the work that we do and the culture that we represent. And yes, this was against the combined forces of Aids Healthcare Foundation (AHF) and their purchased shills at Cal-OSHA. Both AHF and OSHA expected us to give up.  They didn’t realize that what they were fighting were my basic life principles and my absolute dedication to the sacred freedom to be whomever you fucking want to be, on camera or off. So, six years later, we triumphed.  You’d think I’d be happy.

Nope. I’m not happy to write this press release.  Want to know why?

Hold on—let me go back a step.  Why am I calling1,000 Load Fuck the most valuable porn ever made?  Well, something is given value according to what people will pay for it.  So let’s add this one up.

There was the cost to AHF to pay their attorneys and their representatives to attend every session for six years, flying them, housing them, paying their fees. That’s money that could have been used more wisely, to put it mildly.

Then there’s the cost to Cal-OSHA for their legal team, their representatives, their investigative agents who spent untold hours working on this frivolous case.

My cost? A whopping 685 bucks. That was covered by a couple of hours of sales of the offending scene online.  So let’s not even count that.

But then there are the less apparent—but very real—costs behind this case.  While Cal-OSHA was using its very limited resources to “investigate” my porn, do you want to know how many people died in industrial accidents in California?  I hope you’re sitting down for this.  There have been between 300 and 500 deaths each year.  That means that while Cal-OSHA was satisfying a bizarre sexual kink in the personality of Michael Weinstein, between 1800 and 3000 women and men were killed in avoidable industrial accidents. Many, if not all, of these deaths could have been avoided had Cal-OSHA been able to oversee and evaluate the worksites.  But they were busy watching “1,000 Load Fuck” for Michael Weinstein.

TIM-105_1000LF_Boxcvr-01
Let me be cold about this.  Each year, the cost to the California economy of these industrial accidents is around $30 billion. That’s around 30 times the entire budget for Cal-OSHA.  But the needs of the State and the lives of working men and women clearly aren’t as pressing to Cal-OSHA as the repressed sexual whims of Michael Weinstein.  At some point, you have to ask what the hell is going on here.

AHF Exhibit 2
And while AHF devoted its resources and its money to this six-year battle, what was going on in the world of hiv/AIDs? Even though AHF claims to be a globally responsible “non-profit” corporation, even though AHF claims to be stopping hiv around the world, AIDs remains the cause of more deaths in Africa than any other disease.  Do you think it’s astonishing that they would focus more attention on one scene from one of my porn videos in California while this was the case?

AHF Exhibit 1

But wait…there’s more!  They’ve also spent well over a million dollars fighting against the use of PrEP in the US.  That’s a million dollars that’s directly responsible for the seroconversion of a hell of a lot of young men.

The people responsible for this are astonishingly irresponsible, terrifyingly ignorant and pathetically hungry for any attention they can muster.  Let me list the cast of a couple of the most culpable folks here:

Michael Weinstein President of AHF, the largest nonprofit global HIV/AIDS organization.  A man painfully out of touch not only with the verities of sex, but also with the now preposterous mandate of his own company.  Years ago I tried to believe that he wasn’t as foolish and small-minded as he turns out to be.  I have now given in to what I had heard from everyone who had dealt with him:   He is to fools what San Andreas is to faults.  Tragically, he’s a fool who, through ruthless dishonesty and repugnant business practice, is playing with the lives of a lot of people.  And that makes him not only foolish but also dangerous.

Adam Cohen Public Health Consultant for the AHF. I don’t know how much he’s being paid by AHF to shill for them in these absurd cases, but can it really be worth having sold his soul, not to mention his intellectual credibility?  This is a young man who used to make films that argued for the importance of seeing all the various sides of an issue.  He’s also celebrated the use by women of the birth control pill.  But he’s a crazy AHF-bred anti PrEP zealot,  a shameful joke of a figure.  He is a monogamous heterosexual college boy who actually seems to believe that he understands gay sexuality better than I do.
I’d like to address a grateful shout-out to one of my ex-employees (a fellow I fired for his inability to do anything well), Gehno Aviance Sanchez, who happily testified in court against me and against TIM.  Fortunately—if somewhat ironically—his testimony served to establish the fact that the contents of the gallon jar—the 1000 loads of the Thousand Load Fuck—was in fact pure semen.  I was pleased that he did this, since a couple of gay blogs had speculated that the loads weren’t entirely jizz.

“I never fake anything.  Ever.”

And this brings me back to the value of the scene in question, the1,000 Load FuckIt’s clearly the most valuable porn scene in history.  Yes, it took a hell of a lot of work to make it happen, and I was thrilled to do so.  It was worth it all.  But was it worth the deaths and industrial maimings and accidents that occurred as a direct result of Michael Weinstein’s petty neurotic need for attention and Adam Cohen’s myopic, ignorant and sanctimonious college-boy vision of gay sex?  Is the porn fetish of an aging repressed and bitter gay man really worth all that this case cost society?  Is the reactionary sex fear of a naive, slack-jawed student sufficient cause to divert the severely limited resources of a state agency away from protecting California employees who died as a result? Was it worth the millions of dollars that were siphoned by AHF away from even trying—even trying!—to fulfill their mandate in third-world countries?

I am horrified to say this, but clearly to the overheated salacious imaginations of AHF, Michael Weinstein and his toady Adam Cohen, a single sexual event involving a handful of white men carries greater weight than the lives and the health of  impoverished African men and women and children, not to mention the health of untold numbers of young gay men.

And that, my friends, is really sick.  I make porn, but if you want to see the truly obscene, look to AHF and Weinstein and Adam Cohen. They play with the lives and wellbeing of those they are supposed to protect in a way that is both facile and vile.

It may be time to lock the fuckers up; to lock ‘em up and throw away the key.

Hi Paul, I wrote to you some time ago, after having seen Ian Jay’s debut movie, (so before appearing in 1,000 Loads) acknowledging and thanking you for having introduced an elusive sense of liberation – almost celebration – around the whole topic of sexual health, that I for one was desperate to feel. We need to admit to ourselves that barebacking, has for some time been a ‘zeitgeist’ trend growing towards the mainstream. It was an understandable backlash, an inevitable knee-jerk reaction to the AIDS epidemic, specifically the extent of the trauma that was – and continues to be – felt. I say ‘zeitgeist’, because I can see parallels in terms of significant change in other spheres of contemporary life: in the 1970s, in Northern Ireland, for example, the IRA would have considered the notion of a ‘suicide bomber’ unthinkable. Today, tragically they are commonplace. We appear to have arrived in an era of ‘post-AIDS post-modernism,’ and are having to redraw some basic principles, such as our attitudes to mortality, not to mention our ‘post-modern’ definition of the word “morality.” Such a discussion against a backdrop where improved technology is paradoxically resulting in less qualitative communication. When you wrote back to thank me (for thanking you!), because all you were used to receiving was hate mail and death threats, I was genuinely surprised. I replied, saying I was sure posterity would ultimately vindicate you, and I still believe that to be the case today. You didn’t instigate a movement, or coerce unwitting participants, far from it. You were simply the first to publicly document the existence of a bareback ‘sub-culture,’ and have continued to do so, despite years of abuse, with a tenacity, humour and compassion that I find admirable. You created an honest, open and above all candid forum, in which everyone – from the Porn Industry to the Tea Party, had the opportunity to pick themselves up after the GRID/AIDS/HIV horrors of the 80s and early 90s, dust themselves off, and begin to address some fundamentally altered human terms of reference. We lost the better part of a generation. It was as though a World War had been fought, but nobody won, everyone lost. Since my diagnosis with HIV in 2002, my relationship with it has swung like a pendulum: from remorse, self pity and endless self-recrimination at one end, to a lunge towards the hedonistic, liberated ‘gift-accepter’ represented by TIM at the other. And sure enough, I seem to have settled, more or less, somewhere in the middle. Somewhere where I can start to redraw my relationship with myself, those around me, and the wider world, and start to move forwards. So Thank God for TIM, otherwise who knows in which direction the pendulum would have swung for me. That was why I wrote to you back then. To thank you for giving me a message in the sub-text to “Breeding Ian Jay,” and which was, to quote Julian of Norwich, that “all will be well.” A message of optimism and self-esteem that had stopped me in my tracks, and – not for the first time – asked myself ‘to what extent is this porn, and to what extent is this actually high-art?’ Because, consummate film-maker that you are, like all great artists you have used the opportunity to offer comment and observation on a far wider scope and scale of intellectual and artistic maturity, than one would traditionally have expected from porn. By the by, those who took the time to read and digest, saw in Ian Jay’s TIM CV how smart he, and this whole operation, was. “Majored in Music and Minored in sex” was the phrase, if I remember correctly. So 1,000 Loads was no fluke! The impact was that much stronger (and furious revolt that much louder) because of the brilliance of the casting. This was no Pig “Taking up the Cause”, this was 20-something Ian Jay, “The Boy Next Door” And Ian Jay himself refuses to fit the Opposition’s stereotypes, which would have angered them all the more. He is an intelligent, sensitive performer, actor, interpreter. He is not a victim, as some have tried to claim. As I said, we are as yet incapable of absorbing what is an ongoing process, but history will record you, in my estimation, as being bang on the money. Because you created TIM at a moment when it was fundamentally necessary. You saw what was going on, were aware of the rate the barebacking craze was accelerating, knew the industry, had a remarkably accurate pulse of Society, and I’m sure also knew how fierce the backlash would be – from all sides, as disjointed, contradictory and ill-judged as it has been. Sad that there is no longer a sense of Community in the Entertainment Industry. One thing the AIDS epidemic fleetingly gave us, was a genuine sense of Community. But it was gone (in my humble opinion) as quickly as it appeared, and with it our ability to think and function collectively. Consequently, the ‘response’ from the Authorities and the organisations you mention has been anything but organised, logical or even unison. It’s a measure of the vast, subtle complexity to all this, and how ill-equipped we would have remained, had it not been for your vision and the courage of your convictions. In living through the AIDS period, we have survived one of the greatest disasters Mankind has ever faced, or will (God-willing) ever face. I wish I could confidently write “natural disaster” but I cannot. Coming across the Kowprowski Polio Vaccine theory a couple of years ago, it has remained naggingly convincing, and I’m reading how half-hearted Rolling Stone’s clarification statement sounds, following the good Doctor’s litigation. Whatever the source, it caused a tragedy of such epic proportions it is impossible for even the most jaded among us to ignore that it was our own ignorance, stupidity, arrogance and prejudice that made it all so much worse than it would otherwise have been. And for me, that dead branch of unresolved recrimination hangs in the air here, fuelling division, thwarting reconciliation. You Paul, had the courage to run with “What My Eyes Can’t See,” because you understood what you had. And you have stuck to your guns, bravo! Humankind, behaving the way it so shamefully does around issues such as sex, would otherwise have shoved the whole bareback thing underground, to remain unidentified, unquantified, prey to misrepresentation or misuse, ending up in the same junkyard repository that our lack of a genuine comprehension around issues such as pedofilia has created. An inadequate response to an impossible social phenomenon that would have surely resulted in far more irreversible, longterm damage than a mere HIV diagnosis? By the way, I realise this message has gone on far too long, and I do apologise. But this is important. We’re talking about the sophisticated subtleties of modern life. This is not something you can reduce to a tweet! But, I’ll wind up, and say I’m glad I checked in, and saw your article, Paul. It’s clear, you have been to Hell and back, on our behalf, and I’m sure you felt convinced that no one even noticed. I can well imagine you feel ‘bitter’ (as you describe), probably exhausted too, simply just having to ‘push back’ day in and day out. But I’m here to re-confirm that someone did notice, and I’m not alone, of that I’m sure. What I have tried to express here will have passed through the minds of every single person, in one form or another, whose lives have been affected by HIV, and who came across Treasure Island Media, in their search for closure and peace. You have dragged Society kicking and screaming into the 21st Century – literally – and compelled it to start talking to itself about one of it’s most loathed subjects –
sex, and the expression of sexuality. Through your work, you bestowed on us some powerful and timely messages of hope and forgiveness, through the medium of a genre – pornography – the rulebook of which you tore up and threw away. You are a genius, a visionary, a true artist, a maverick and one of the greatest influences of our time. And I can testify that what you set out to do, back in 1998, you have done. You have played a vital part at the outset of what will be a lengthy healing process. You must trust that although what you might hear today is detrimental, ultimately the good you will have done will be incalculable. The plans have been drawn up, and oh so slowly, we are heading in the right direction…. Most of the time…! On behalf of myself, and whoever wishes to subscribe to what I have written, we will forever be in your debt for having dared to bring about such a seismic, but ultimately beneficial shift. God Bless, Simon Roberts

Seriously, how is one man to blame for the behavior of millions? Did he play all the parts? Did he fill the jar himself?
One man cannot influence men who will not be influenced. However, one man can and has brought into the lives of many some of the hottest fantasies conceived and I am eternally grateful.

you bitch about this guy being responsible for sero converting people with his policies…what is it that you think you do promoting bb as sexy, hot and ok? you confuse me really, your entire life is about unsafe sex, sex that gets people positive, you promote it as sexy, hot and “real sex”. i dont agree with this guys fight against prep but really you and your company are promoting becoming positive. i think prep is a useful tool, as are condoms BOTH of these together will help. this guy is wrong i agree with you there, but promoting behaviors that convert people isnt very responsible either …i mean no offense to you ..i just dont get how you see him spreading this disease around but you dont see what you do as doing the same thing..and in fairness to you its just not TIM its other studios as well that promote these behaviors…now PLEASE dont be mad at me ..just respond..? ;-0)

In today’s NewYork Times (online version) there is an article indicating that PrEP has been totally successful in preventing the transmission of HIV among US users over a two year period. Some of the guys had picked other STIs, so they were fucking without condoms.

That was a lot to read, I just want to get off to the nastiest porn ever. Fill those cunts with hundreds of loads, have some hunk fuck it deep and let’s see all of it squirts like a fountain. Thanks, I’m done. Then 5 minutes later, I’m watching this again. Thank you for putting this on tape. That is the nastiest shit I have seen so far. What’s next I wonder, feeling scared there won’t be a next… For now, am going for my thirds. 🙂
